The Flood Recovery Project needs your help!
The Flood Recovery Project was established by the Michigan Conference in partnership with UMCOR and the Great Lakes Bay Long Term Disaster Recovery Group to provide disaster case management to community members affected by the June 2017 floods in the Great Lakes Bay area. Katie Vokal and Anne Wortley serve as the two full time disaster case managers. Katie and Anne have contacted around 800 households who experienced flooding and opened 40 cases for households that need additional assistance to fully recover. They estimate that they have another 800 households to contact and anticipate opening another 50-60 cases.
In order to keep up this pace, they are in need of volunteers for the following:
- Making initial calls to homeowners.
- Accompanying Anne and Katie on home visits
- Serving as volunteer case managers who would Anne and Katie on cases and/or be responsible for a limited number of cases.
- Hospitality and support for volunteer teams that will be assisting in the re-build phase.
If you are interested in volunteering, would like to know more about the project, or are in need of assistance, please contact Katie or Anne at 989-486-8784.
